Things have not been the same since Don Jazzy and D’banj called it quits and shut down their former label, Mo’Hits. The singer recently revealed that professional record labels in Nigeria died after his former group, Mo-hits was disbanded a few years ago.
Speaking to journalists at a recent media hangout with MTV Base, the music entrepreneur lamented that nowadays, record labels don’t have proper organisation and structure.
“There is no need in deceiving ourselves. Record labels in Nigeria died after Mo’hits and that’s the truth. There are no record labels anymore.
“Any artiste that can buy a laptop, produce a song with it, get his uncle to pay for video would say he has a record label. That is not a record label.”
In February, it was gathered that the Kokomaster got the production for his hit single, Emergency, from an emerging producer who he had never met.
In line with this and the success of Emergency, D’banj said he’s working on a new partnership, which is a project that will create a platform where upcoming artistes or producers can easily connect with A-List acts
